5 Tips To Help You Vacuum

ReEveryone loves having clean floors, and one of the most important tools to keep them sparkling is your vacuum. With a little bit of practice, anyone can become a master cleaner, and to help you be the very best that no one ever was, we’ve put together a list of five tips to improve your vacuuming skills.

  1. Keep the Bag Clean: A lot of vacuums have lights that turn on to indicate when the bag is full, you should be replacing them before they get the chance to light up. By changing your vacuum’s bag when it’s about three quarters full, you’ll keep its suction strong. Even if you have a bag-free vacuum, don’t forget to clean out the dust cup as it collects in there.
  2. Replace Dirty Filters: It doesn’t matter how amazing or top of the line your vacuum may be if it’s running with a dirty filter. These don’t need to be changed quite as often as the bag, but you should change it every six bag changes or so to ensure that it’s doing its job properly. Be sure to check for any wear and tear when you change your bag – busted filters just won’t get the job done.
  3. Avoid Small Objects: Your vacuum isn’t an invincible piece of machinery. Before you bust out the vacuum, pick up any pieces of clutter and small objects that could get sucked up during your clean. Getting something like a penny stuck inside your machine could break an internal part, or even break your vacuum altogether.
  4. Dust First: Before you even consider turning on your vacuum, go through your house with a duster to knock loose all those dust bunnies hiding out of reach. Pay special attention to countertops, blinds, curtains, and any other high up surface. Some of the dust your duster doesn’t collect will settle back down on your floor, giving you the perfect opportunity to suck it up with your handy dandy vacuum.
  5. Don’t Just Do It Once: One pass with the vacuum won’t be enough to properly clean your floors. In order to get the best clean possible, you’ll want to make several passes across your floors. This is an especially important step for pet owners; your cute and cuddly companions will coat the floors with their hair, and your best bet is to go after the worst spots from multiple angles in order to get all the hair.

Even the world’s greatest vacuumer needs a break every once in a while. When it’s time to take a breather from cleaning your home, The Maids are ready to face the challenge.
