How To Clean A Dirty Mirror

No matter how careful we are while washing up at the sink, grime will eventually
begin to build up over time. While it won’t be too bad at the beginning,
if you don’t take the time to care for your mirror it will eventually
turn into a splotchy mess that has your house guests cringing in fear.
Calcium and Limescale
These types of deposits are especially tricky to deal with, and should
be taken care of before you go after the easier to manage bits of grime.
Calcium deposits look white, and are a bit rough to the touch, while limescale
looks milky white. In order to clean the calcium deposits, pour a little
bit of white vinegar on a damp cloth and rub at the problem areas until
clean. For limescale, your best bet is to rub at it with some lime juice,
pickling vinegar, or lemon juice.
Gather Your Supplies
While using paper towels or a normal rag may be the quickest and easiest
option, you’ll want to get a microfiber cloth to prevent your mirror
from getting scratched, and to avoid leaving lint on your mirror. Along
with that, you’ll want to grab:
- Bucket
- Water
- Multiple clean rags
- Rubbing alcohol
- White vinegar
While you can always go out to the store and buy window cleaner, you can
easily make your own cheap alternative by mixing one part white vinegar
to every four parts hot water in your container or bucket. It’s
especially helpful if you have an empty squirt bottle around your house
to use for this.
The first thing you should do is get one of your rags wet with rubbing
alcohol and rub away particularly difficult spots. Be sure to work quickly,
because the rubbing alcohol will quickly evaporate off the rag. Once you’ve
taken care of those spots, wet your mirror’s surface with a damp
rag soaked in the cleaning solution. Next, take the microfiber cloth and
rub your mirror dry starting from the top and work your way down.
It’s that easy! If you notice that you missed any spots, it’s
easy enough to dampen your cloth with a bit more cleaner and go for round two.
